Most jobs are one of two things — a bar swap that needs everything lengthened, or a single worn line being replaced. Pick the system first, then narrow by brand and length on the collection page.

Three ways to start
Riders land here for one of three reasons: taller bars going on, a tired line coming off, or a metric bike that needs stainless in place of the factory rubber.

Putting taller bars on
Complete kits from LA Choppers, Burly and Fat Baggers bundle the brake line, clutch cable, throttle cables and the wiring extensions in one box, cut to length for a specific bar height. One part number instead of six, and nothing left short on the bench.

Replacing one line
Stock-length and over-stock front and rear brake lines from Drag Specialties and Magnum Shielding, in black vinyl, braided stainless and Black Pearl — listed separately for ABS and non-ABS bikes, because they are not interchangeable.

Not a Harley
GBrakes builds direct-fit stainless lines for Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki — street, dual sport and motocross, front and rear, going back to the early nineties. Firmer lever feel than the factory rubber hose it replaces.

The part that trips people up. How much extra length taller bars need, what the finishes actually change, and the two fitment details worth checking before you order.
How much longer?
Cable and line kits are sold by the handlebar height they are built for, not by a raw length — so the simplest path is to know the rise of the bar you are fitting and order the kit that matches it.
Going up roughly two inches over stock, you can often reuse the factory lines. Beyond that, plan on replacing them: a cable pulled tight at full lock will bind the throttle or drag the clutch, and a stretched brake line is a real hazard.
Match the kit to the bar
These are the kit lengths we stock, and the bar heights they are cut for. If your bars fall between two, size to the taller one — a slightly long cable routes fine, a short one does not.
| Handlebar height | Order | Also available |
|---|---|---|
| Stock / up to +2" | Stock length | Often reusable |
| 12" – 14" | 12"–14" kit | +2" / +4" lines |
| 15" – 17" | 15"–17" kit | +6" lines |
| 18" – 20" | 18"–20" kit | +8" / +10" lines |
| Bagger extensions | 20" line extension | Brake & clutch |
Individual over-stock brake lines are listed in +2", +6", +8" and +10" so you can lengthen one line without buying a whole kit.
Finish and construction
Black vinyl is the OEM look — a coated line that hides against a blacked-out bike. Braided stainless shows the weave, resists abrasion and swells less under pressure, which is where the firmer lever feel comes from. Black Pearl and midnight are braided lines with a dark coating over the weave.
On the clutch side, cable-operated bikes take a clutch cable and hydraulic bikes take a clutch line — they are not alternatives to each other, so check which your model runs before you shop.
Two things to check first
ABS. If your bike has ABS, the front brake line routes differently and is a different part. The listings call it out, and an ABS line will not correctly replace a non-ABS one or the reverse.
Year splits. Harley changed line routing at several points — the '14 Rushmore touring update, the '18 Softail M8 chassis, the '06 Dyna six-speed. A part that fits an '09 Street Glide may not fit a '14. Every product page lists the years and models it covers.
If you are unsure, send us the year, model and bar height and we will confirm the part number before you order.
Common questions
What comes in a complete bar kit?
Depends on the kit, but the plug-and-play kits from LA Choppers, Burly and Fat Baggers typically bundle the front brake line, clutch cable or line, throttle cables and the handlebar wiring extensions — everything that has to reach the new bar. The product page lists the exact contents; some kits are cables only, without the brake line.
Do I really need longer cables for taller bars?
Around two inches over stock you can usually get away with the factory lines. Past that, yes. Turn the bars to full lock both ways before you decide — if anything goes tight, or the throttle does not snap closed on its own, it is too short.
Is braided stainless worth it over black vinyl?
For brake lines, a braided line swells less under pressure, so the lever feels firmer and more consistent, especially on a long line down a bagger. For clutch and throttle cables the difference is mostly abrasion resistance and looks. Both are DOT-compliant.
Will these fit my metric bike?
Many will. GBrakes covers Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki — street, dual sport and motocross — with direct-fit stainless lines back to the early nineties. Filter to GBrakes, or check the fitment list on the product page for your exact year and model.
Can I install a brake line myself?
It is a straightforward job if you are comfortable bleeding brakes — but bleeding is the part that matters, and ABS systems can need a scan tool to bleed properly. If you are not set up for that, our Anaheim shop can do the install.
How do I know which clutch my bike has?
If there is a cable running from the lever down to the primary, it is cable-operated. If there is a hard line and a reservoir at the lever, it is hydraulic. Most late Touring models are hydraulic; most Softail, Dyna and Sportster models are cable. Tell us the year and model if you want it confirmed.
Fitment checked before it ships
Send us the year, model and bar height and we will confirm the part number against the manufacturer's fitment data before the order goes out.
Kits, not scavenger hunts
Complete bar kits bundle the line, cables and wiring extensions in one part number, cut for a specific bar height — so nothing on the bench turns out two inches short.
Harley and metric both
Touring, Softail, Dyna and Sportster from the V-twin brands, plus direct-fit GBrakes stainless for Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki.
