Lifestyle Cycles Product Review: Rekluse Torq Drive Clutch

"All right, Kevin here again at Lifestyle Cycles. I've got Danny back with us from Rekluse Clutches, who brought us the Torque Drive system. What can you tell me about this? I know there's a lot of technology that goes into the line, but maybe you can give us some more detail?"

"Thank you, Kevin. I think what sets us apart is our patented technology, our innovation. This is our replacement clutch pack that accommodates up to 15 friction plates. The kit includes steels, fibers, and our basket sleeves, which protect the basket from notching. So, every time you're accelerating and decelerating, it's not hammering back and forth on your basket. It also allows for smoother sliding up and down. With this, you get cleaner shifting, more power to the ground. Again, going to 15 friction plates, more friction plates equals more torque transfer. And with that, we can also reduce clutch lever pull. Our friction plates, it's a proprietary friction plate. We go to a thinner plate, which allows us the room to fit in more frictions, as well as we use a steel core. The stock clutch uses aluminum. Aluminum has a higher thermal expansion rate than steel, so you basically get performance loss with heat with a stock clutch, something called clutch fade. With our steel plates, we don't get that. They don't expand as much with heat. Another patented idea here is our friction pad design. Again, kind of like a tread on a tire where it's dissipating the water out of the way. Our pad profile is actually scooping oil in between the plates, brings it to a nice fine point to help separate the plates, because we have so many in there, so it makes it easy to find neutral. It gets oil flow through the clutch plates, lower operating temperatures. It's our high-performance replacement clutch pack, allows you to reduce the clutch lever pull. Combined with our other products, such as our slave cylinder on a hydraulic application, you can reduce the clutch lever pull by up to 60%, so it's a dramatic decrease in clutch lever effort. With our Torque Drive clutch pack, you can transfer up to 50% more torque, so great for big engine builds. We can handle up to stage four builds, so this can actually handle up to 200 foot-pounds of torque. That's a lot."

"Now, if I understand correctly, these sleeves not only work in your forged bracket or your forged basket, but also in a stock basket as well, is that right?"

"Correct, correct. So, this is our basket, billet-machined, hard-anodized, starts from a forged blank. But with this kit, you get the steels, frictions, the basket sleeves, and those will fit right in with the stock clutch basket."

"That is awesome. So, you don't have to go all-in at this point to get the high performance, and the kind of numbers you're talking about are amazing with just a clutch pack. So, kind of two ways you can go with a big engine build. You need to beef up the clutch, right? We build all that horsepower; you've got to find a way to transfer that to the rear wheel. It's a perfect application for our Torque Drive clutch pack or even just for someone who needs a replacement. Maybe someone buying a new bike off the showroom floor just wants a lighter clutch lever feel. This is a product that can do that."

"Yeah, it's got everything covered in my mind. Can't wait for us to get one of these into a bike and do the install video on it. It'll be up on our website, social media, YouTube, everywhere else. Again, thank you so much, Danny, for making the trip all the way down here from Idaho. Always look forward to talking to you."

"Thanks for having me. Appreciate it."

"Thank you."

"Well, wait, don't go anywhere until you like and subscribe to make sure you get notified every time we post our how-to videos, our product reviews, and all of our amazing interviews with your favorite racers and industry icons. I'll see you guys next time."
