For Dave Eckert, Founder & President of Saddlemen, memories of Daryl Bassani aren’t just about performance—they’re about personality, humor, and a larger-than-life presence that left a lasting mark on the industry.
One moment that still stands out took place years ago at a showcase in Canada. Like many industry events, it ended with a party—but Daryl Bassani made sure it was unforgettable. “Every showcase, there would be a big party,” Eckert recalls. “And Darryl was notorious to wear a dress to these parties.”
Bassani didn’t just show up—he owned the room. “He would go around and get the reaction of everybody,” Eckert says. “And it was just absolutely hilarious… seeing him wandering around and getting everybody’s attention.” For Eckert, it wasn’t just funny—it was emblematic of who Bassani was. “It was a great time. It was a great memory.”
That same bold, unapologetic attitude defined what Eckert describes as the Bassani lifestyle. “Darryl’s lifestyle was one of defiance,” he explains. “If you told him no, it couldn’t be done, he was gonna go ahead and figure out how to do it.” Whether it was marketing, engineering, or building “the best pipe out there,” Bassani approached everything with relentless determination. “He was the guy that was gonna be the overachiever.”
Beyond the innovation, it was Bassani’s energy that made him unforgettable. “He was always a hoot to be around,” Eckert says. “He would be at the races… walk around with his special drink concoction, or wrenching on a new design that he had coming.” It was that mix of creativity, curiosity, and pure passion that made his lifestyle “very unique”—and something Eckert says he was “always glad to be a part of.”
That spirit continues to live on through Bassani’s loyal following. “It was very much a cult following that Darryl had,” Eckert notes, pointing to riders who remain deeply committed to the brand and its performance roots.
Looking ahead, Eckert is confident the legacy will not only continue—but grow. “The legacy of Bassani will continue with Lifestyle Cycles and Junior being a part of it,” he says. “I think it’s gonna be the perfect match to continue making some of the best pipes out there.”
With strong industry connections and a focus on innovation, Eckert believes the future is bright. “Junior’s connection in our industry will perpetuate the innovation moving forward that will keep Bassani around for a very long time.”
