Soundstream WHD14+ Unloc Kit Step by Step Installation

Soundstream WHD14+ Unloc Kit Step by Step Installation

Stay tuned. If you already have a SoundStream WHD14 Plus and want to upgrade it with more features, stick around and I’ll show you the new SoundStream Unlock Kit.

SoundStream used to have the 14 Plus model, which is now discontinued, as well as the SI, which is also discontinued. The 14 Plus was a base model that gave you Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while the SI had those same features plus all the gauges built in. It could even communicate with the factory Boom 1 and Boom 2 amplifiers from Harley-Davidson’s CAN bus system.

Now there’s just one radio — and it’s awesome. You start off with the WHD14 Plus, which replaced the old 14 Plus. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and by adding this unlock kit, you turn it into the SI.

It’s a total game changer. You can start with the entry-level radio and upgrade later without buying a whole new unit or losing money reselling it. Today, I’ll show you how to install the unlock kit, do the update, connect the Maestro, and plug in the new harness so you can turn your older WHD14 Plus into something better than the old SI ever was.

In this 2023 Road Glide Limited, we already have the WHD14 Plus installed. The hand controls work, but there’s no cursor adjustment because it’s running off the hand control module. We’re about to fix that.

First, turn the bike off. The unlock kit comes with a new T-harness, a Maestro RR2 module, and the update USB. Important note — this specific Maestro RR2 has special programming. The standard RR2 or MRR won’t work. Also, once you install this update, don’t re-flash your radio with a standard 14 Plus update or you’ll erase the unlock and need to buy a new kit.

Plug the thumb drive into the factory USB port, turn on the bike, and start the update. Don’t turn off the ignition during this process or you’ll brick the radio. Keep a charger on your battery just in case. Once it’s done, power the bike off, let it reset, then power it back up.

You’ll know it worked when you see the new boot-up screen that shows your radio has been unlocked. You’ll go through the basic setup again — language, region, etc. — and your old settings like wallpaper and crossovers will be reset.

Next, install the new T-harness and Maestro RR2. Make sure the connectors match color to color — black to black, green to green, and red to red. Once everything is properly connected, the Maestro will work every time. Remove the old harness, plug in the new one, and tuck the module safely inside the fairing. Keep it dry — it’s not waterproof.

Now, power the bike back up. You’ll see the new layout, complete with tons of new features. Under “Bike Information,” you’ll see tire pressure, brake lights, turn signals, engine codes (which you can even clear), and more. Under “Gauges,” you can now view and customize two full pages of digital readouts — speedometer, tachometer, intake temp, 0–60 times, quarter-mile times, and much more.

All that data was already in your Harley’s BCM — the factory radio just didn’t show it. Now your SoundStream does.

In CarPlay mode, your hand controls now scroll through apps and menus, so you don’t have to reach up and touch the screen. You can skip tracks, pause, or open maps — all from your handlebars.

This upgrade makes your WHD14 Plus better than the old SI ever was. You get a brighter 1000-nit QLCD screen, full wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and a cleaner, faster interface.

Whether you already own the radio or you’re buying both together, the unlock kit is a killer value. You can install it yourself — no dealer needed.
