Soundstream HDHU.14SI Head Unit Unboxing

Soundstream HDHU.14SI Head Unit Unboxing

Stay tuned while I unbox the Soundstream SI head unit.

All right, today I'm going to unbox the Soundstream HD HU14 SII head unit—I can't wait! This radio is specifically designed for all Harley touring models from 2014 to 2023, whether it be an Ultra Classic, an Electra Glide, a Trike, an RG3, or a Road Glide Limited—you name it. If it has a fairing on it from Harley between 2014 and 2023, this is the radio you're going to want.

When we ship it, we also offer the Maestro modules. This does need to be purchased separately, and we program them for you. I've got both the RR and the RR2 modules, and we program them to the serial number on your radio. That way, it's completely plug-and-play when you receive it. This is an additional purchase, available right on our website on the product page of the SI head unit.

It's also going to come with a T-harness that allows you to integrate the Maestro module in line.

Now, let's unbox the radio! Soundstream did a really great job with the fitment of this unit. If you compare it to the stock radio on your motorcycle, the cage and chassis are exactly the same, ensuring a perfect fit. There's nothing to modify—no wires to cut or anything like that. It simply drops right into your Batwing or Road Glide.

I'm not going to remove the protective film on this unit because this radio is for sale, but it does come with a protective cover. The screen is glass, so it won’t scratch easily like the radios Harley released between 2014 and 2018. It closely resembles the 2019-2023 GTS radio that Harley uses.

The first thing you'll notice on the back is the Harley-style connector. It also has front, rear, and subwoofer RCA outputs, a USB input, and an FM antenna input. There is no GPS antenna because this radio does not have built-in GPS. However, it does work with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via your phone. You can connect it through USB, but there are also wireless dongles available for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

If you have any questions during installation, feel free to reach out to me or any member of my team at Lifestyle Cycles' customer service department. The unit also comes with a pamphlet that contains a QR code in the bottom corner—scanning this will open up the full instruction manual, answering 99% of any questions you may have. But again, don't hesitate to reach out! I've been doing this for a while, and I can help you through it.

All right, now I'm going to fire this thing up and show you some of the cool features of this radio. Stay tuned!

Today, we're going to go over the features and options of the Soundstream HD HU14 SII. Let's power it up!

Starting at the home screen, you'll see options for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB input, AM/FM radio, and SiriusXM (if you have a SiriusXM dongle plugged in). There’s also a section for motorcycle info.

Under the motorcycle info section, you’ll find a gear indicator, check engine light status, turn signal indicators, and high/low beam status.

Next, let's check out the gauges. This radio supports up to 61 programmable gauges when using the Maestro module. The Maestro decodes the CAN bus, making your hand controls work and allowing you to select which gauges to display. You can even set up two separate gauge screens to toggle between.

The unit fully supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can access your music, maps, phone calls, contacts, and even check voicemails.

Heading back to the home screen, let’s go into the settings. You’ll find display settings, including nighttime brightness adjustments and touch key color options. Most Harley bikes have an orange tone, but you can choose from red, white, yellow, blue, green, purple, and cyan.

Now, let's talk about sound. The unit has a built-in 13-band digital equalizer. I recommend not increasing any frequencies above 4 dB—if you want more bass, lower some of the higher frequencies instead and readjust your amplifier to avoid distortion.

Next, we have the crossover feature. This is a great option if you're running speakers without an external amplifier or if your amplifier has manual dials. I recommend setting it at 100 Hz so your 6.5" and 6x9" speakers don’t handle excessive bass frequencies, which can lead to premature wear. A 24 dB slope is also ideal for rolling off low frequencies before they reach your mid-range speakers.

The Bluetooth settings allow you to pair your device. However, this radio includes the Magic Cast dongle, which makes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto completely wireless. If you’re using an Android phone, the Magic Cast may initially show it as an Apple CarPlay device, but once selected, it will function correctly as an Android Auto device.

You can also access other saved apps through the unit, like Domino’s Pizza, Auto Club, or auto insurance apps—whatever you have installed.
