17 Year Old Owns 2 Harleys & Rides them to High School (Full Interview)

Alright, Jared, it's good to have you on the show. Good to be here. So let's tell your story; that's why we brought you in. We wanted to hear your story. You've got a great story, and a lot of people don't have a story like yours. So, I think our viewers are going to enjoy hearing it. Why don't you start with a bio? Like, how old are you, what's your name, who are you, how old are you, and why are we here right now?

Alright, so my name is Jared Dy, I live in Fullerton, California. I'm 17 years old.

Okay, and why are we sitting here in front of the camera recording this story of yours?

Well, I'm here, aren't I? I'm 17 years old and I bought a Harley-Davidson.

So you ride it to school, right?

Yep, every day.

Okay. So, you're 17 and you ride a Harley-Davidson to school every day. Am I getting you right?

Yeah.

So, how many girlfriends do you have?

Just one.

Just one girlfriend, yeah. Do your teachers... Do you have teachers that try to slide you their phone numbers or anything? Like, they see your Harley and they're like, "Man, you know..."

No, the only one, honestly, has been the campus supervisor. But, you know, she's kind of scary.

So, you're saying it's happened?

It has happened, yeah. Pretty much just once, though.

That's amazing. Does anyone else at school ride a motorcycle to high school?

A real motorcycle? Or, like, a scooter? 'Cause I don't really think scooters count.

Yeah, a real motorcycle.

No, just mine.

Just yours?

Just me.

What about the scooter that rides?

I don't even know what it is. It's some kind of little Chinese knockoff Vespa-looking thing. But, you know, it doesn't count. It doesn't matter. Anyways, no one else is riding a Harley-Davidson to your high school?

Nope.

Okay. Just me.

Do you have any other friends that like to ride or that ride with you that are your age?

Not really. I mean, the closest thing I've got to friends who ride with me are friends who ride dirt bikes as well.

You also ride dirt bikes?

Yeah.

Okay. But, aside from that, I don't really have any other friends my age who ride street bikes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that brings me to my next question. What kind of inspired you to get into motorcycles? When was your first bike that you actually owned? Was it a dirt bike?

Yeah, so the first bike I ever owned was a '97 Suzuki RM125 two-stroke. I rode it for one season, then I blew the motor.

And that was like a year ago? Or was that like 10 years ago?

I was in seventh grade.

So you were like 13 or something like that?

Yeah, 12 or 13, I think.

Okay. And then, aside from that, growing up, my dad worked for Dragonfly. So, my entire life since I was like 9 years old, I've been heavily involved in the motorcycle community.

Right.

Yeah, and it started from Dragonfly, and now it's a lifestyle. It's been a journey, and motorcycles have always been there.

When did you get your first Harley-Davidson? Because I know the one that you have now isn't your first.

No. So, the first bike I had, I guess I still have it, is an '07 Road Glide with a 23-inch front wheel. It's all done up, got everything done to it you could want to do to a bike.

So, you've got a collection. Not only do you have a Harley that you ride to high school every day, you've got multiple bikes to choose from.

Yeah, I do. I've got my Dyna that I just bought, and then the Road Glide as well. But yeah, it's fun. But no, I got that bike from my dad. It was my dad's bike that I kind of ended up with.

Did you buy it from him, or did it just get passed down to you?

Not yet, officially. I'm still in debt to my old man for the Road Glide.

So, what made you choose Harley-Davidson? Why not a different manufacturer like Indian or Honda?

Ever since I was little, when I was like three or four, my dad bought a Sportster. And that bike actually dumped me off on the wrong side when I was like five or six, probably.

Oh, wow.

And yeah, I've dumped it since. And that got traded in for a Road King. But yeah, no, my entire life I've been around Harleys. So, that's what I've always known. So, when I got to this point in life, there wasn't another option. It was Harley-Davidson. There's no other option. It's going Harley-Davidson, absolutely.

So, Jared, why did you pick Lifestyle Cycles to buy your Dyna?

Overall, it's the most bikes you can get anywhere. Everything's gone through, everything, you know. When you're buying a bike at Lifestyle, it's, you know, you're buying a good bike. They've gone through it all, did the secure check, 100 points, whatever it is. But yeah, I mean, I walked upstairs, I saw that bike, and I was like, "That's the one." I went downstairs, everybody was super helpful. Everybody was just like, "All right, you know, let's make it happen." And that was it. It was super smooth. It wasn't sitting around trying to figure out what was what. I walked inside, I was helped right then and there, and taken care of.

Absolutely taken care of. It was, shoot, I don't even know. It was like 45 minutes, maybe, to get everything done.

Well, as soon as you're ready to buy one, they're an oiled machine ready to put that thing out the door.

Absolutely.

So, did you go to any other shops and shop around, or did you just...

I did not. This was the first. I walked in here, they had exactly what I was looking for, and that's what I had. That's what I was looking for, plus then some, and yeah, I was taken care of, hands down.

Did you do any modifications to your bike right off the bat, or are you waiting on that?

Nothing major. I changed the mirrors on it, changed the derby cover. I'm probably gonna put a Lowrider S fairing on it, but other than that...

Do you do the work on your bike by yourself?

Yeah, everything I do, I do it myself.

Okay.

So, I mean, like, could you replace the cam on it, and do, like, an exhaust replacement?

Yeah, yeah, that's all easy. I've done, um, on that old, my first bike, I rebuilt the motor in it after I decided to screw that one up.

Oh, wow.

But yeah, I mean, that's just always been my thing, is working on bikes. It's always been working on bikes, working on cars, all of that. It's just what I... Things with motors, gas motors.

Yep.

That's kind of what goes on in your brain.

Yep, exactly.

So, talk to me about the hair flow. You got a nice mullet going there. Is that... What's the plan here? What do you... I don't know, you just like the party up, you know, in the back and business in the front, or...?

It's different, yeah. I mean, I don't really have a good answer for that one.

So, you love Harley-Davidson, you have a mullet, you've got to love the United States, you've got to love America, right?

Oh, absolutely.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, there's nothing so... Absolutely. Changing subjects. All right. Where do you like to ride? Does your girlfriend go with you?

Not yet. So, technically, I'm still on a permit, so I have all kinds of stupid restrictions that I'm not allowed to ride after dark. I'm not allowed to ride with passengers. I'm not even allowed to ride on the freeway, so that's kind of limited.

You don't ride on the freeway?

No, I've never...

I do not. No.

No, I genuinely never have.

Oh, well, that's probably a good thing.

Yeah, probably a good thing.

It's a good thing.

Yeah, I'm pretty confident.

But, yeah, no, not really. Some of the side streets here in Southern California are like freeways.

Yeah.

Might as well be.

Yeah.

So, that makes sense.

I've gotten that bike up to the speed limit for sure.

I see you and your dad tear out of the parking lot every once in a while. I feel like maybe speed limit might be... No, no, it's the speed limit.

It's the speed limit.

Just really fast to the speed limit.

Yes, absolutely.

Once you get to the speed limit, you stay at the speed limit, then you slow down.

Yeah, absolutely.

Well, that's good.

So, where would you say you like to go ride? Wherever I can, it doesn't... I don't particularly have a preference on where, but the more... The less traffic lights, the better, right?

Yeah.

But
